Public Sector Food Procurement Initiative (PSFPI)
Associated with Government initiatives to raise health and nutritional standards

Aims: 'To procure food in a manner that promotes sustainable development and removes barriers to small and local suppliers'

Objectives: To raise farming standards, encourage more tenders from small local producers, demand healthy food, reduce environmental impacts and remove barriers to supply.

Outcomes: These include more demand for assured and organic food; improved choice for ethnic minorities; reduced waste; and better working conditions for catering staff.
